On
the wall of my office I have a cartoon that has meant a lot to me.
It is a "Far Side" cartoon drawn by Gary Larson. He
entitled it "The Great Equalizer". The frame depicts a young man
attempting to push open the door of the Midvale School for the Gifted.
The boy is leaning on the door with all his weight and it will
not budge. On the door is a sign with one simple word:
Pull. Common sense is the great equalizer.
Of all the knowledge and experience I have, for all the schooling and training I've gone through, I still have a huge deficiency when it comes to common sense. God made up for this shortcoming in my life by gifting me with an incredible wife who has an abundance of common sense. Together we make a pretty good team. She loves me despite my lack of common sense. She loves me for me.
God is kind of like that with us. He doesn't spend time concentrating on our shortcomings and failures. God loves us for who and what we are, not for what we bring to the table. This forgiveness is open and free to all. While He wants us to mature and to grow, the Bible is clear that He loved us long before we started on the road to faith and He will continue to love us each step of the way. That's a pretty good thing considering how much time we spend trying to push open the doors that just need a good pull.
You Are Loved,
Pastor Stacy
